Baby Abram: 6 days old | Napa Newborn Photography

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Welcome back – I’ve taken a long break from blogging but I promise you I’ve been quite busy!  I find my newborns come in waves.  March and April were nuts, May is a bit slow and June is going to be crazy busy!

This newborn session was quite special for me, as I photographed his big sister when I was just beginning my journey into the land of newborn photography about 2 years ago.  I think she might have been my third newborn ever!  Here’s an image of her and her daddy from way back then…

Now we have sweet baby Abram – pure perfection like big sis! This little guy did not make a peep for me. He truly was the easiest newborn I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing!

He’s so stinkin’ cute!  Love his lashes and lips!

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he’s grinning for us here!

Abram models a beautiful knit hat by my very talented friend, Amanda, of After the Bump.

He slept SO well that I decided to break my sling out to see if I could get a shot of him in it.  Newborns need to be deeply asleep to do this pose safely, and please make no mistake, he was supported by both mom AND dad at all times and lifted only inches off of my oversized beanbag.  Ah, the wonders of Photoshop!  If you’d like to see the before and after, please take a look at my Facebook page where I posted the original image.

One more on the bean bag, then we move to snuggles with mom and dad! How cute is he in this little visor!?!?!

Coming full circle, we have the newest addition in his father’s arms, just as his sister was previously.

And because there were so many of these two together that I loved, I’ll share a couple more…

A classic, but timeless pose…

There’s something so vulnerable about this next one – perhaps it’s the way that he’s just sinking into his daddy.  I don’t know quite what it is that makes this image so precious to me, but I’m very fond of this moment.

And what post would be complete without a photo with his mama? Especially not one so close to Mother’s Day! Her love is so plain to see!

Many thanks to baby Abram’s family for allowing me into your home to capture this most precious time in your lives.  I hope I’ve given you memories that you’ll cherish a lifetime!

Macro Love | Novato Newborn Photography

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

I’ve been so fortunate to be busy lately, however the one draw back to lots of newborn photo sessions is all the editing that takes place afterwards.  Though I actually do enjoy my time spent in Photoshop, it can get monotonous.  Sometimes I just need a little break to put together something fun, just because.  Tonight I decided that I’d build a little storyboard of macro images from one of my more recent sessions.

Macro images might not be something the parents even thought about before or during their new baby’s photo session, however as a newborn photographer and parent, I know these moments are gone in the blink of an eye.  I love when I’m able to capture these very tiny details – from sticky newborn eyelashes to flaky feet to fuzzy ears.  I love it all and I hope the parents I work for will treasure these images too!

Newborn Workshop | San Rafael Newborn Photography

Friday, March 16th, 2012

This past week I had the incredible experience of attending a one-on-one workshop with the amazing Keri Meyers of Keri Meyers Photography of the Seattle, WA area.  If you’re a fellow newborn photographer you’ve no doubt seen her work.  I was so excited to meet her so I could push myself to that next level.  The workshop did not disappoint!  I’m excited to bring these new skills back home to the San Francisco North Bay Area.  Here’s a peek at some of my favorite images from the first day of the workshop.

Our first baby was Nicholas, a sweet 12 day old boy.  I was amazed that he didn’t make a peep the entire time!

I love these little lips!

I just adore those sweet wrinkles that newborns get along their back – so precious!

And finally…

But that’s not all! After photographing Nicholas, baby Anya – at just 6 days old – was brought in for us to play with! Not only do I adore her name (one of my twin boys would likely have been an Anya had either of them come out a girl!) but she was the most petite, pretty, feminine little thing! She also slept peacefully throughout the session – gotta love that!

She even modeled one of my Moon Valley Design headbands!

Her mama brought in this headband.  It’s always nice to include a personal touch like this.

And finally, she ended her session with a little smirk on her face.  I wonder what she was dreaming about!

That’s all for day one of my workshop.  Check back soon for more images from day two.  That little beauty has the most fantastic head of newborn hair I think you’ll ever see!  A special thank you to Keri Meyers for taking the time to share with me her talent, knowledge and newborn clients!

Little Lucy | Marin Newborn Photography

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love my job! I get to do something that brings me and others so much joy and in the process I meet some really wonderful people.  Lucy came to me at just 7 days old.  What a little doll with such a gorgeous head of hair she is!  Her parents were so sweet to let me have her model some headbands from my new newborn headband line for photographers called Moon Valley Design.

Here she is showing off my Bijoux newborn headband:

I adore her little wrinkles, soft hair and petite, feminine features!

I can’t help but wonder what she must be dreaming about.  I swear I see the faintest smile on her face here!

A couple of days later, her parents agreed to meet up with me outside to try something new.  Something I’d like to offer to my clients more in the future are outdoor newborn images (weather permitting).  One of the great things about living in the San Francisco North Bay Area is that Marin, Sonoma, and Napa Counties provide beautiful country backdrops almost year round!  Take this for instance – while other parts of the country were hammered with snow, we had a lovely mid-70′s day of sunshine!

And because Spring is practically upon us, I thought a little bunny was in order!

Hope you’re having wonderful weather too!

Until next time,

Sebastian: 14 Days New | Petaluma Newborn Photographer

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Meet Sebastian who was all of 14 days young when I photographed him.  What a sweet little guy he was!  I immediately was taken by his soft, fair red hair, light and long eyelashes and those amazingly deep blue eyes!  I traveled down to San Francisco for his first photo shoot where I got to meet his train-loving big brother!  He was truly a gem.  He held his little brother so sweetly and safely for me.  You could just see the admiration and love in his young eyes.  I have a feeling they will become the best of friends!

The big brother was struggling a bit to stay with me at this point and wanted his mama to join in on the shot.  I’m SO glad she did!  This has got to be one of my favorite images ever and know that if I had an image of myself with my kids like this, it would be displayed billboard size up in my home!

Mom and her two boys

Next we moved back out to the room I had setup my studio equipment in for Sebastian’s primary images.  Much to my delight, big brother jumped back into my first setup despite having previously informing me that he was done.  Oh how I love the way he naturally posed here – he actually matches his little brother!

Sebastian started off his session with some very nice quite and alert time.  Always a pleasure getting a few wide awake images from a newborn baby.

What did I tell you about those deep blue eyes?  Pretty amazing, right?

Ahhh – getting sleepy!  That’s a nice, good yawn!

Happy Valentine’s Day! | Sonoma Newborn Photography

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Well, I’m wrapping up the day here at home but I didn’t want to let it pass without officially wishing you lots of love this Valentine’s Day.  I hope you spent it with those that mean the most to you!  And because no blog post is complete without an image, here’s a sweet little newborn girl, decked out Valentine’s Day style!  The headband is from my new line of elegant newborn headbands, called Moon Valley Design.  This particular piece is called ‘Juliet’ which I thought was an appropriate name for a day like today!

Twins! | San Francisco Newborn Photography

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Being a newborn photographer is fun! I have a good friend who’s an up and coming photographer (I’ll plug her once she gets that website up and running!) that I’ve been mentoring casually for awhile now.  This was our first real one-on-one mentoring session with an actual newborn and as luck would have it we got to work with not one newborn baby, but eleven day old twin newborn babies!  Fun stuff!  Here are a few of my images from the session.

Ginny: 12 Days Old | Novato Newborn Photographer

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

Baby Ginny couldn’t have been more sweet! I traveled out to Marin County to photograph this little one in her home.  She has the most sweet, feminine and delicate features so I went with that in my set and prop choices for her.  Have you ever seen a more beautiful baby?!?! Thank you, M Family, for allowing me into your home during this most precious time! I am honored!

Copperfield’s Display | Sonoma County Newborn Photographer

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

I’m excited to share with you all that I have my first ever display of work up in a public place!  This month only, if you stop by Copperfield’s bookstore in downtown Petaluma (which incidentally is the coolest bookstore around), you’ll see that I’ve got my own little window there!  I’m including a photo to show you but this does not do it justice at all – there was so much glare coming from the window!  If you’re in the area, please stop by and take a look.  Your baby just might be on display there!

2011 Newborns in Review | San Francisco Newborn Photographer

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Here we are at the end of another year!  I feel so much love and gratitude to all the families who have honored me by choosing me to document some of the most special times of their lives.  As 2011 draws to a close, I love to look back through my images to see what I’ve accomplished.  At the end of this year I announced on my Facebook page that I had reached a major business decision: I would be focusing on perfecting the art of newborn photography and subsequently only take on new maternity or newborn clients (though I will always be there to document these families as their children grow).  Though I did photograph more than just newborns this year, this review will document only these littlest clients.  So here we are – some of my favorite images of my newborns of 2011.  Grab a cup of coffee and get cozy – this is going to be a huge image share!

Thanks again to all my families!  I hope to continue to photograph your babies as they grow!
