Cake Smash: First Birthday Fun! | San Rafael Baby Photographer

Is there anything better than a cake smash session?  Heck no!  What exactly is a cake smash, you might ask?  Well, for that very special time when a little guy or girl is hitting that huge milestone of one year old, I like to do a very special session with them which is known as a cake smash session.  It’s simple really.  You get a cute cake, adorable kiddo, setup you studio space – being sure to get a photo of the cake before it’s too late – and then you let the little one have at it!  Meanwhile, I capture each moment being careful not to miss any of the cuteness!  It’s so much fun to watch the baby have his or her first taste of cake – quite often the baby’s first sweets at all, as was the case with this little one!  The expressions are just priceless.  Cake smash photos make for fabulous birthday party invitations, which I can create and have printed for you!

I first met Roman as a newborn.  He’s been my biggest newborn to date, having been born weighing a whopping 10 pounds and 15 ounces!  There is nothing cuter than a chubby baby!  Here he was back then…

Can you believe those cheeks?  And those lips? {{{SWOON}}}

And here he is having a blast with that cake!

I think the best way to display images from a cake smash session is in a collage such as this, typically printed at 20×20″ on canvas.  What a cute piece of art for your little one’s room!

Now let’s take a look at sweet Mr. Roman a bit closer up!

That last image – like “What? I didn’t eat it!” cracks me up every time!

Today represents several firsts:  First blog post, first cake smash session and first birthday for this cute little guy!  Let me tell you, I wasn’t quite sure how this would all go down, how he’d react to the balloons (always a nightmare with my kids – they just get SO excited!) and the cake.  As it turned out, he was more interested in drawing with the icing than eating the cake, but here you have it – one cake smash coming right up!
